This week - Captain Marvel Letterboxd - Click this link to find my 01/03/2019 · “The Hole in the Ground” might think that it’s piling on tension to the story with these crescendoing passages, but instead it feels like music is just being used to fill in its many gaps. This review was filed from the Sundance Film Festival on January 26th. The Hole in the Ground, too, is a directorial debut. But unlike the aforementioned films, it feels like one. That's not necessarily to its detriment, as the film has that infectious creative energy of a first-timer experimenting with his/her craft. It has creaking doors in an old house in the woods, jump scares, spiders, creepy music, wind, an old woman who speaks gibberish, a little boy who says “Mummy”, and, of course, a hole in the ground. One evening, Chris disappears into the woods. Sarah attempts to fetch him but instead comes across a giant hole in ground. Given its shape, one would assume it was caused by a meteor crash. Despite its enormous dimensions, the titular hole remains hidden amongst the dense vegetation, and other human beings seen unaware of it.
